Wedding Whitening: last minute solutions

Less than one week until your wedding? Want whiter teeth? Get to the drug store.

You don't have enough time to see a significant change in tooth color, but you can find some over-the-counter options that may give you a brighter smile and remove surface stains.

Whitening Toothpastes

These pastes are mainly polishes that remove surface stains. Replace your regular toothpaste with one and brush additionally after coffee, tea, wine, or anything else that has a tendency to stain. My favorite is Crest Vivid White Toothpaste.

Whitening Strips

They work...kinda. Strips provide a reduced-strength version professional whitening. Use them every day before the wedding, or as much as you can tolerate (whitening can make teeth very sensitive).

BE CAREFUL with your gums. Keep the gel off gums. The active ingredient in whitening products is peroxide, which can irritate gums with frequent use. You don't want red, inflamed gums for your wedding pics.

Control Plaque

Plaque buildup makes teeth look dull and grungy. Brush 2X per day and floss every night before your wedding. You should be doing this anyway…

Good luck and Godspeed!

For those who have more time...

1-6 months before

No crisis here. Go to your dentist. You have ample time to get at-home or in office whitening treatments. These will be professional treatments and do cost. However, only dental professionals have the ability to provide high-concentration whitening solutions to make a drastic difference in tooth color.
